Cheap Joystick for FSX?

Go to solution Solved by manikyath,

if its something you wanna "try out" i'd say cheap, but if you want something nice it's best to get something fancy.

i've been playing FSX with a logitech attack 3 since the windows vista days, it's been okay, but the lack of a rudder axis is a bit annoying at times.

since i am of the belief that peripherals are 100% personal preference i'll drop in 3 options, of different price brackets:

- at around the €50 mark, the logitech extreme 3D pro is essentially the fresher version of the attack 3 i have, its a joystick, it does joystick things, but it's not what you'd call "mindblowing"

- at around the €150 mark you have the "logitech" saitek X52 flight control system, which is a good example of the advantages of a bigger budget, with saitek going really all in when bumping the budget up to €250-300

- at budgets in the "insane" range you can start to think about using multiple panels, and combining them into essentially "your very own cockpit" kinda like what super expensive super fancy car simulator folks do.

After playing FSX, I discovered a new passion that i had for aviation and would like to take the simulator further than just using an Xbox 360 controller which really limits what you can do after seeing everything the game/sim has to offer. Is it a good idea to get "cheap" peripherals in this case or is it better to invest in something more professional?

Is there really nothing with a throttle and stick for less than the X52? That's $200 where I live. I'd like something closer to (or under) $100 if possible.

Is the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Flight Stick any good for $50?

I have that stick, the one with a thumb slider, not the bigger throttle. Used it for years with flight sims before fnally upgrading to a X-52 Pro some time ago. It's more than good enough for a basic flight stick. Its actually better than the X-52 pro in that it has an adjustable and stiffer spring (but that might be a personal preference).

Thanks for the insight. Seriously considering one of those now. Especially since I'm seeing them as low as $30 on ebay.
