Hey everyone! I just bought a new SSD and i'm about to install it. To make it my main drive do I unplug the wires from my main hard drive and plug it into my SSD? And then do I find a spare sata cable for my old drive and plug it in? Thanks everyone! I apologize if the wording is confusing.

If you are going to do a new install of windows, yes, it is easier to leave your old drive unplugged.

As I have seen weird issue where it puts some boot files on the old drive if it sees it there.

what if i want to keep my old drive for storage

You can, but just hook it up after you do the Windows install. You should have a 2nd cable that came with the motherboard, as there usually 2 even on the cheap ones

i hooked up my ssd with my the ports but now my pc wont turn on. i tried plugging everything back to normal, without the ssd, but it still wont turn on

Sounds like you knocked a cable loose. Did you plug both cables in? SATA and power?
