Hi everyone.

I'm here because I'm having a few weird issues connecting to my Plex Server.

Whenever I try to connect to it from another PC with a secure connection, BOTH inside or outside my local network, I can only get indirect connection through relay (with all the limitations that come with it).

However, disabling Secure Connections on my server, I can flawlessly get direct connection to it, even from the outside.

To make things even weirder, my android phone can always get a direct connection, regardless the fact that I'm using a Secure connection or not, inside or outside my local network.

Server Version: 3.20.8 Running on Windows 7 UPnP enabled in my router. No VPNs.

I can't see where the issue is here, maybe you can help me sort this out.

There should be another option there, not just secure on, or secure off. There should be a third option for "Prefer secure connection" Set it to "preferred". That is the default, I would use that.

For debugging purposes, if you are primarily concerned about the connection "in network" I would shut off your internet access to the machine. The server should work in network regardless of internet connectivity. That way you take away any chance for the signal to fallback to an indirect connection through the net.

It is set to Preferred as default, but it still doesn't get the job done for me.

If I leave it to preferred, my laptop client still tries to establish a secure connection, proxing me through Plex's servers (relay), and it limits me to 0.7mbps streams.

I disable secure connection at home as a workaround to be able to watch my stuff at full quality on my lan, but I need to solve this and get direct access through a secure connection, since my university wifi blocks all non-https connections.

I just ran a test on my own server. I can connect using both the full Plex Server and the Plex App from the windows store. The Plex App works in every case, secure, nonsecure, and preferred. The same goes for Plex server. But if I have tunnel bear on in chrome and the main server set to secure it will not let me in. It is possible a setting in chrome could be to blame? I would try first setting all your plex settings on the laptop to their defaults first. And then log out, sign in.

I am in a university library with my laptop. Server is at home about 50 miles away.

Tried to default the client settings, tried with a different browser, with the windows store app, and with a different computer: same result, I can access my server directly only through unsecured connections, even locally.

Meanwhile, my Android app is still flawlessly connected, green lock icon shining of course (the connection is secured).

I REALLY can't figure this out.

Next step I'll try to run a live distro of Ubuntu and see, maybe Windows is messing up.

I posted this on the Plex forum as well, but I'm not getting any response unfortunately.

On the Plex Reddit I found a guy with a similar issue, but he solved with yesterday's update, which didn't work for me (the patch note doesn't mention anything about this tbh).
