Heya,

Im looking into getting a new CPU/Mobo for my system.

what i need is enough pcie lanes to run 2 1080ti in sli and a PCIE SSD

These are 2 of the main things that i need.

The system will be mainly for gaming on 3440 X 1440.

Idealy i dont want to have to upgrade my ram to quad channel for the use of Threadripper or Skylake-X however these seem the main to that support the lanes ( Unless im being an amature and missunderstanding that)

What would you suggest?

Cheers

If ONLY gaming, try go Intel because of it's higher IPC,though I would also give Ryzen a pick since it is better value. For 3440x1440 you wouldn't need more than a Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 3 or Ryzen 5 since i7 dont really give more performance than an i5 in gaming, ofcourse if not VR gaming and streaming. For streaming i'd go ryzen, its kinna hard.

Well you already have a 6700k so you don't need to upgrade. It would be a waste of money.  2 1080tis would be fine on a 6700k because it has x16 pcie lanes and you only need x8 per card.

Dont have the 6700K anymore it died on my but with the lanes would i not need extra 4x to use the pcie ssd?

You would.  The 7700k still only has 16, so moving up to either the X series or ryzen would cause you to buy a new platform if you need more than x16.  All of ryzen 7 has 24 pcie lanes so your choice is either that or a new platform (8xxx or 78xx).  I recommend the ryzen 7 1700 or 1700x just because of the option to stream better than intel and its minimal gaming performance difference from intel.

🙂
