I have watched a lot of youtube videos. Claiming that a Pentium would make a CHEAP gaming PC.... Does anyone have any info on this? It would be greatly appreciated..

Andy

Pentium G4560, when the price was 65-68$ , it was worth considering for 1080p gaming pairing with 1050ti or even 1060 .but the price has gone much higher making it now bad choice.

Kaby Lake Pentiums have 4 threads, which makes them solid budget gaming CPUs.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

I have a hard drive, DDR3 Ram and a video card. I can reuse.

Try and maybe find a Haswell i5 or even i3 (4160 would be fine), so you can reuse your DDR3

Thank you for the info.... Money is tight... Just looking for info for a cheap gaming PC.

The Kaby Lake Pentiums are fetching a premium right now. Take your pick as to the reason: high demand from budget builders, high demand from miners who just need a cheap CPU to slap on top of their 8x RX 580 setup, intentional supply restrictions from Intel because the Pentiums were cannibalizing the i3, other theories out there yet.

If you're after a cheap gaming PC and you've already got a HDD, DDR3 and a GPU, I would encourage you to skip the Kaby Lake idea and get yourself an off-lease Optiplex with an Ivy Bridge or Haswell i5 in it, then drop in your HDD, RAM and GPU and go. Might need a bigger PSU depending on the GPU you have.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

If your looking for a cheap gaming PC, and you already have HDD, RAM ad GPU, then I would recommend skipping the kabylake pentium G4560, and find a prebuilt machine that has an older ivy/sandy/haswell based i5 in it, then from the current components that you already have on hand, drop them in the machine, and your ready to go. In terms of the PSU, you might need to purchase a different unit, as the PSUs in prebuilt machines are propiotary units which means that they might not have the right connectors for your GPU. The older core i5s are quite capable at 1080p gaming and buying prebuilt machines is a common thing people consider if they are on a budget and looking for a capable 1080p gaming system.

Yes, but that's going to be bid up to at least $130-140. Your best bet with off-lease systems is to look for buy-it-now systems with a best offer on them, then hunt for listings that have tons of PCs available. Those are the sellers most likely to cut you a deal.
