Ok I’m just curious. Are ASICS just like any other cpu just basically built to be amazing at 1 thing? Also I found some asic chips for pretty cheap and I was wondering if it’s possible to make your own asic miner from asic chips? I know it wouldn’t be practical but just for fun. Thanks

they are asic Avalon chips

You are basically correct on what ASICs are, but if you're going to attempt to mine with one, check to see what currency the ASIC was made for and double check to see if that network hasn't added some safeguards to prevent that type of ASIC.

It’s for bitcoin. So is it possible to make my own ASICS miner from these chips? I have soldering skills and am willing to solder a lot. They are these Avalon A3255-Q48. Thank you!

Sure its possible, but you're going to need to go beyond just soldering and potentially program the thing (Not to mention your mining program would have to detect the ASIC and communicate with it.)

You may be able to get away with just soldering for these chips but I would double check as going the DIY route isn't as clearcut as off the shelf parts typically are. And like you mentioned before, this would probably be unprofitable but I say give it a shot to gain some experience (or joy?).
