Hello,

I just recently build most of my first build.

Ryzen 1600 with stock cooler

Asus B350 Strix gaming f mother board

3200 Corsair lpx @ 2933mhz

NZXT s340

I feel like everything went pretty well for my first build.  Cleaned the cpu and cooler and applied noctua thermal paste (pea sized). Evenly screwed the cooler. Felt a little stiff but went on very secure, it felt like I was going to break something. I only have 2 fans in my case which I assume are exhaust fans. I did not add addition fans yet. Wait for them to come in.

My my question is what are good temps for the cpu?

i never OC’d it yet but my HwMonitor says it’s fluctuating between 3400 and 3700mhz. The only thing I did was download the ryzen plan for windows.

My my temps are fluctuating at idle with nothing running in the background. 32-53 degrees.

Mid it suppose to be fluctuating at idle or is there an issue that I’m not aware of?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

At stock CPU frequency with the Ryzen balanced power plan, your idle frequency will be 3400. Three cores should boost to 3600, with one boosting to 3700 assuming your temperatures are within safe levels.

Temperatures on stock cooler at stock frequency should be around 30c idle, 60-70 load. And no, your temperature shouldn't be fluctuating like that. Something must be using the CPU, else it'd sit around 30c. HWMonitor should show your 12 threads and their percent of usage.

Very good choice on the board. I wish I'd gone with that one.

You could try updating to the most recent bios version. The updated ones tend to improve system stability and memory compatibility. You might get that ram running as rated.

If you get bored, head over to pcpartpicker.com and create a Parts List and drop a URL here. Knowing correct part numbers may come in handy when troubleshooting any future issues.

Hey thanks for the response.

after sleeping for the last hour. And coming back on. Idle temps are at 30.

Nothing was was running in the processes or anything that I saw using cpu.  Usage was at 1%-3% at the time of checking. Went to 9% but I saw nothing using cpu at all. Maybe I missed something. 4 out of the 12 have used 10%, 20%, 28% & 33% max. Most are at 0 and some are using 1-3%.

I do have the current bios. But when enabling DOCP to 3200, it won’t post and goes into safe mode. Not sure if I’m doing something wrong.

But it I like the board. Looks amazing IMO. I was going to get the X370 but I figured I was never going to SLI so I chose this for $105 with $20 mir.

wanted to go with Trident Z for the RGB but I couldn’t justify spending $40-$60 more for less speed and lights. I may get a NZXT Hue+ or something like that.

Monitoring programs can use some cpu cycles, but HWMonitor and HWiNFO are fine. Ryzen Master is bad about using 10-15% of all cores at idle, causing people to complain about high idle temps, when it's technically NOT idle.

I'm too old for RGB to be in my tastes, lol. Typically the more expensive ram (of same frequency) may contain Samsung B-Die chips on the DIMMs. They're known to work best with Ryzen and overclock better, hence the increase in price. But in all honesty, if you're at 2933, you'll never notice a difference. I fully expect future bios updates to make DOCP settings much easier.

You could always tinker with the ram timings and achieve 3200. It could be as simple as raising the CAS Latency (for example) from 16 to 17or18. Or changing the Command Rate from 1T to 2T. Or even increasing Dram voltage from 1.35 to 1.375.  Small changes could work.

Thanks for your replies. This community is so much more helpful than and console community Ive been in.

Looks to be steady around 32/33 degrees so I guess that is good. Im not to sure how to stress test it as this is my first build and up until a little while ago I had no idea about the internals of a PC. I just got so tired of console that I made the jump.

I love the hint of RGB on my board. I think it provides the best look for me. I may add a strix GPU once prices even out or a great sale on something comes up. But i believe I chose good for my 1st build. With lot of help from a few contributors that I see all around these forums helping others.

As far as ram timings. I have no idea what you mean. I have no knowledge of timings. I just heard DOCP was good as an auto option for noobs lol. but maybe in a few months they will make it so I can get to a stable 3200. but Im not complaining one bit. I went from a cyberpower PC with an amd 4300 cpu and 8 gb of ram at 1333 to this beauty I built myself and I feel so much more accomplished.

Now Im already looking at upgrades. lol

That does sound like a huge improvement and good investment for the next several years.

I wouldn't worry about stress testing unless you decide to start overclocking the CPU, or if you start running into issues that need further testing. But it sounds like you've got a good setup. As I briefly mentioned earlier, the difference between 2933 and 3200 is so minuscule, you'll never notice the difference.

Oh it is.  I was getting 4-12 FPS on low settings on Minecraft, fallout 4 and Skyrim with my old one. I think I was doing something wrong but none the less well worth the upgrade. Fortunately for me I don’t need the best of the best right now. I feel like it will serve me fine for years to come. Once I upgrade out of my gt 1030 ?

fortunately for for me the 3200 was cheaper than all of the 3000 ram I was looking at on amazon ( I had a gift card there, only reason I went with them or else I probably could have gotten a Cheaper set. ) I read speed was chosen more so that latency so I just got this one.  I really wish I got the Trident Z. I like the squared look better. But I’m definitely not complaining.
