Why X Variant?

As I have noticed, there is almost no difference in clock speeds between for example R7 1700, 1700x and 1800x when overclocked, so why would I get any of the x variants over the cheaper 1700?

I have my eyes on the 1700 atm, help me make the decision.

If you do not plan to overclock, you can rely on XFR to boost a few cores on demand for you. They may also be slightly higher binned. And the 1700 is 65watts TDP. Which goes out the windows when you OC anyway.

 

If you are going to OC, then just get the 1700.

Get 1700 and decent X370 and OC it to levels of 1700X

I unfortunately want an mATX build, and the best in the market is the Asus TUF B350M, which as you mentioned it cant compare to x370s.
