Mailing Lists...

They are very much the Marmite of the internet, you either love em or hate em, depending on what they are. I like them to keep track of my most used companies as it may come in handy ... getting off topic.

I'm designing a website (code, graphics, etc.. the whole package) for a small business, done many others so I'm not new to the majority of the stuff. But this is the first one where a mailing list would come in helpful.

Now after a fairly quick to medium length Google, nothing of really any use was thrown up. So let's ask real people! (some times its just quicker, getting someone who knows what they are talking about )

It's only for a monthly offer, an honest small business, with seriously no interest in data (although data protection registered for staff anyway), it's a traditional fish and chip shop, not really interested in technology, but I'm helping them overhaul their entire infrastructure. Website was on the list.

** Any ideas? Doing it manually via MySQL/PHP? I'm really not sure where to start on this one... I've made PHP contact forms before but that's about it. Or a pre-built system, 3rd party? **

It will be purely opt-in just for peoples convenience of not having to check the website every month, it won't be compulsory or ask while trying to read it manually, just 'a box and a button' if people want to do it. If it can't be done then no bother, just, the easier you make it the more people use it, theoretically...

***** EDIT: I should make it clear, if possible it would ideally be automatic or at least easy for the client to maintain. Simply write into a template (i made) what the new offer is and that is then pushed to the mailing list.
