BIOS Update required?

Hello guys, I'm helping someone to build a AMD RIG with FX 8350 and M5A99FX Pro R2. The problem is that I have heard that you need to update the BIOS of the motherboard in order to use the processor, but I have no spare AMD processor with me. So it is really necessary to update the BIOS in order for it to work? Thanks.

Nope. Worked fine without update. Just update the bios nevertheless
