I am in the process of upgrading my PC to improve gaming performance, and am stuck on which GPU(s) I should get for it.

My current build is this:

Mobo: Asus M4A78T-E

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 945

RAM: 4 gigs of ? brand 1333 (Will be switching to 8 gigs of G.Skill Ripjaws X series as soon as the sticks arrive)

GPUs: 2x Radeon HD 5570 in Crossfire

PSU is, I think, a 750 watt.

I'm not upgrading the CPU, just the GPUs. I've decided to stick with Radeon because I prefer having the 2, and my mobo doesn't support SLI. Should I go with a 7790 or 7870 GHz edition? I'm hoping to stay in the $150-$175 range. I will be getting the GPUs one at a time, due to budgeting restraints, so I'd like for the one card to be able to perform at least marginally better than the two I currently have in my system.

Also, which brands should I look at or avoid?

I'd recommend you save up for a bit longer and get a single more powerful card.

In your position, I'd save up and get an r9-290.

It will perform as well as the two 7870s (I believe), but you won't have to deal with problems with games which don't run well on multiple cards.

Also leaves you with less power consumption, less heat output and more headroom to upgrade in the future.

Hope this helps :)
