My friend built himself a budget pc a year ago. He has been having a few issues for the past 6 months. The pc locks up completely and he needs to press the reset switch to get back and play games again. Its random and we dont know what it could be. I have tested everything and it seems fine.

Specs:

CPU: AMD FX 6300
Mobo: Msi 970 gaming
Ram: HyperX DDR3 8GB
PSU: 800w (Dont know the name)
he has a stock cooler

He wants to buy a new motherboard but I dont think that will solve the problem.

We have a massive LAN coming up and would like to sort it out

The pc freezes?

From what I have experienced, that is usually because of faulty memory.

Either RAM or a harddrive giving up.

I´d go memtest if I were you

Case: Corsair Graphite 760T || PSU: Corsair RM650i || Mobo: Asus RoG Strix Z270E || CPU: Intel i5-7600K @4.8GHz || Cooler: Corsair H110i v2 || RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200MHz 16GB White LED || GPU: MSI GTX 1070 8GB GAMING X || SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 250GB, Samsung 860 Evo 500GB, Samsung MZ1280 M.2 128GB || HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB
