Go on and overclock, but do it slowly and validate each step (run stress and stability test).

It is always good to keep your components at under 80C while stressed. Over this temperature it's not healthy for your components.

Read around how high people overclock their cards to know how far you can stretch without sweat.

Overclocking when done slowly is safe. If something goes wrong your pc will just crash and reboot. Nothing wrong in this.

After finding a maximum stable overclock with under 80C under load you should dial your overclock a bit down just to make sure you won't have higher temperatures then 80C with time when thermalpaste gain age.

Consider re-applying thermal paste if your card have 2 years or more before overclocking.
