Unexplainable...(explained)

Well...that'll do it I suppose...

My RX 460 has all of a sudden started running much hotter than usual. It's been unstable at higher clocks, unlike it used to be (see my previous threads regarding this card.) I used to be able to keep it around 55° at 45% fan speed under load at 1330mhz. Now it's hitting 60° at 1310mhz with the fan nearly maxed out.

I applied AS5 a couple weeks ago and it was doing fantastic. Only in the past few days since I updated Windows have these issues started arising. But I don't see anything in Microsoft's update logs that would seem to have any impact on the heat being generated or degraded performance/stability of my physical components and overall entire PC. I've been crashing, red screening, grey screening (?) rebooting and getting hot out of the blue. I can't revert to my earlier Windows now because the updates overwrote my system restore (I'm on the Insider Program).

What the hell is going on? Anybody else on the IP getting any similar results?

Done it multiple times over the past couple of days. DDU in safe mode, disallow Windows to install drivers automatically, installed them manually from Device Manager and from Radeon Crimson setup

Presumably it isn't dust buildup so the only thing I can suggest is getting a replacement if it is convenient. I know (for me at least) that is an absolute last resort but I don't really know what else.

Had the card for 7 months now, got it from Best Buy, XFX card. Unaure if the application of the Arctic Silver paste will affect any kind of RMA to XFX directly as Best Buy didn't give me a warranty over 14 days, even though I paid for one and when asked about the lack of warranty they just refunded the warranty payment...jackasses.

Like I said, this is totally out of nowhere. I hadn't been meddling with settings before the update to Windows, now I can't get the sweet spot I once had because of them I presume

While Arctic Silver 5 may not be conductive, obviously you don't want that crap all over the chip. "A liberal amount" does not mean a pea size as you would a CPU. The die is quite a bit smaller, so you don't need quite as much. Lesson learned
