I had a USB3.0 external HDD

When I plug in my HHD into the 3.0 port on the front of the case

It keeps installing and drop out

but when I plug into a 2.0 port on the front of the case, it doesn't have any problem

Moreover, when I plug into a 3.0 port on the back of the motherboard, it also doesn't have any problem.

After that, I try to plug in a USB 2.0 flash drive into the 3.0 port on the front of the case, it also works.

So, why I cant use the HHD on the 3.0 port on the front of the case????

usb 3 needs both the chipset drivers and usb 3 drivers installed

the frontpanel should be usb 3.0 compatible too and connected to ur mobo

make sure that the front panel usb isnt set to usb 2.0 mode or legacy mode

it could also be a cable length issue

the front panel requires a extended cable from the motehrboard to the front panel already, if the distance from motehrboard to device is too long, usb loses its signal strength and it can cause issues ( u could try an super short cable for the hdd )

Maybe the wiring of the front USB 3's or the header for the USB 3 isn't working as intended.

motherboard usb settings ( there are settings for the front panel aswell in the motherboard )

however the frontpanel can be in a different location then the standard usb settings since it runs off a different chip

u can add some volt to the front panel and test if that works , there should be a legacy mode , usb modes for frontpanel somwhere too :P

u have legacy usb support enabled, disable or set it to auto

aswell u have only set the voltage compensation for front port 1, port 2 is still default :)

u can also try disabling usb mass storage driver support, ( can cause issues with external drives too )

if u connected it to port 2 then it wouldnt have made a difference there

that is really strange to be honest, it  could even be an issue with the usb3 connector on the motherboard , the case pcb to the usb ports and other stuff o,o if that stuff doesnt fix it its really really strange ._.

if those had problems, it will not work when I plug in the USB 2.0 flash drive too???

but the USB 2.0 flash drive just works fine:( really strange

it could be that the 2.0 works fine but the 3.0mode is fucked ( 2.0 mode is basicly legacy of 3.0 )

u can always force disable legacy and see if taht works , however it could end up meaning ur keyboard wont be detected in the bios ( rarely happens only tho )

i think the front ports just dont support hot swapping on the usb 3.0 mode

or a setting ;c

i dont think the board is broken or defective at all
