I had this issue to some extent with my Sony Vaio connecting to my Sony Bravia. The resolution changes and I think that messes with it, My viao was 1600x900 and my tv was 1080x1920 which seemed to confuse it at first.

What you need to do is go into control panel and set the moniters up so that your TV is like your secondary and your laptops moniter is primary or the other way around.

But its like it only wants to output one signal to begin with. Once you have set up that you want both to be running it should remember for the future.

EDIT:

I dont think your chipset hasnt failed. Its more likely your computer is just being a silly bugger.

2nd EDIT:

Just make sure the display outputs are the right resolution to the actual moniter. Like how my laptops res and Tv's res are different. It looks weird if you push them around so just set them as their recommended settings.

But his Display doesn't change resolution, it doesn't work at all to begin with. It only displays when hooked up to a external Monitor and he never has a Picture on his LCD. So i guess the only thing you can do is replace the LCD because the display components seem to be working fine.

Ahhh ok then. I misunderstood and thought he was getting a black out only when plugged into an external port.

@guganbedi, If thats the case then you probably need a new LCD. Its most likely the cables running from your motherboard to the LCD are damaged but since the video out is (Most likely) directly connected to the motherboard its still displaying everything fine.

So like...you need a new top half of your laptop.

there is another possibility the display is on but the backlight has a failed if you can get a light source put it up to the laptop display while its on in a dark room and see if you see anything at all if you do then the backlight has a failed most likely the inverter board but if still nothing then most likely the display connector has become unseated unless you have had an accident with it lately otherwise there would be no reason for the cable to completely sever all at once more fail over time with lines on the display either that or power for the inverter has been cut also when you get the display on the external screen is normal or is it missing color or with lines?

Anyone keen for some online gaming hit me up!

  • 2 weeks later...

Thank you guys for your replies. Sorry for replying late. The display is working fine and the problem was with the nvidia graphics chip which is normally fixed by heating it up. this problem normally occurs in the laptop modal which i have. But before i could fix the graphics chip my laptop died. Its was not working at all. Then I took it to a HP service center and they told me that the motherboard is dead and replacing the motherboard will fix the issue. But i now am thinking of buying a new laptop as the one which is died is like 7 years old.

Again Thank You guys for your support....
