So I saw a youtuber overclock a locked 3rd generation i5 on a non overclockabole motherboard link below and there isn't a video on how to do it(at leats what i found)

Thanks in advance

You'd have to play around in the BIOS to see if you can do it.

My ASRock Pro 4 was able to with my locked ivy bridge i5, but the board was advertised as being able to do so.

It is all specific to the motherboard and it's overclockability.

I did a quick search and got to your motherboard's page, but didn't see it mentioned. You may need to look into BIOS release notes or the manual for more detail.

But what does this have to do with what you are trying to do?

You want to understand if you can increase the CPU ratio on non-k CPUs.

That's what "locked" and "unlocked" refer to on CPUs. The ability to manipulate the CPU multiplier (ratio).

He increased the multiplier to the maximum turbo frequency that is allowed on a capable motherboard, like I detailed that I did with my ivy bridge.

When it comes to locked CPUs, you are dependent on the motherboard allowing you to do so.

Have you updated your BIOS and tried to do this yet to see what your results are?

So boot into the BIOS and see what you can/can't do ;)

Just make note of any recovery methods your motherboard supports (CMOS Reset, etc.) in case something goes awry.

I know for me, it was pretty seemless, but I haven't used a non ASUS/ASRock motherboard in 5+ years, so I may be a bit spoiled lol.

well i tried but it didn't even let me change my memory settings, this is bios 12b is it possible to q-flash a older version of bios and try to overclock it
