I built a PC last spring and here's the specs:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2dYiK

Windows 8 64bit

Drivers up to date as of yesterday

The SSD is a recent purchase. The 1TB was originally the boot drive but I had a crashing issue last month that I was never able to fix, so I decided to reinstall and upgrade to an SSD at the same time. Everything was working fine for about a month but now I get freezing after login.

The system freezes and nothing is clickable/responsive but the mouse pointer is still active. The freeze only happens after I login.

Things I've tried:

Automatic Repair - I let it run for about 3 hours with no response before ending it.

command "chkdsk /f" and "chkdsk /r" - Run for both disks, no improvement.

unplugging the 1TB from the motherboard - No improvement.

memtest - No problems.

safe mode - Froze after login just as with the normal boot.

My last problem made it so that Windows couldn't even boot to the login screen and instead would immediately take me to the "Repair my PC" screen. Are these problems related to each other?

Any ideas?

Edit: Ah, left out a pretty crucial detail. It freezes about 10 seconds after login and appears to stay frozen.

Tried updating your SSD firmware (use this tool to see if you have the latest firmware): http://www.kingston.com/en/support/technical/downloads?product=SH103S3&filename=SSD_Toolbox_20

So after the freeze you will not be able to use it or does it unfreeze after a certain period of time. Check your startup programs and try disabling the ones with high startup impact.

Welcome to winds 8

Mine does the same thing the comp will just randomly freeze yet the mouse moves but nothing can be clicked.

If you run playing a video at the time it does this you can hit space bar and hear the video stop and go.

Ive searched online for a solution but couldnt find anything about how to fix it but a plenty of people are having problems with it.

Sorry

Have you got any outdated sata drivers or any software to do with storage that might be out of date or any drivers that might be out of date?  You should try updating them.  Use the Kingston Toolbox (for SSD) software to update the firmware if possible and use the S.M.A.R.T to check if your SSD is possibly dead.  It sounds like a BSOD to me, where it freezes and after a bit will just blue screen.  I would try to just reinstall first and get all the drivers that aren't going to interfere and the latest ones too.  So yeah overall here is what I would recommend doing (in steps):

1. Reinstall windows

2. Install the drivers you need and make sure they are all updated ones.  (maybe an exception for the network drivers)

3. Update the BIOS to the latest version and MAKE SURE ITS SET TO AHCI MODE

4. Download the Kingston SSD Toolbox and check with all the tools to make sure your SSD isn't dying out of the box

Okay, so I reinstalled windows and updated the drivers and ssd firmware. The Kingston tools say that the ssd is fine. It's still set to AHCI mode.

I'd rather not update the BIOS if I can help it because I don't really trust the power here.

It's not freezing now, but I kinda expected this. Is there any way to tell what was causing the problem/avoid it in the future?

It could be a software problem that caused it. Just keep in mind the programs you installed lately if you get that freeze so you will be able to know what problem it is. :)
