lenovo Lenovo - fan dust management tool

I keep stumbling upon the software utility from Lenovo that is built into the energy management tool they provide and wonder if the fan dust removal program actually works. I've read about the actual process it employs - spinning the fan at periodically varying speeds to vibrate the dust off the fan surface. I've also come across articles that say the fan is made to spin in the opposite direction to create a vacuum that sucks the dust from the fan. Though these seem plausible on paper, I can't seem practical validations of these claims. Has anyone ever had visible success with the software utility for dust removal? Not necessarily the lenovo one, but any such utility for that matter.. 

 

Edit: I cannot open the laptop and check the difference myself as doing so would void my university's warranty policy.
