GPU: Gtx 1080 rock edition (windforce)

Ok, so I just finished building my first PC. And when im playing any videogame (100% load) my gpu always goes to 82 degrees. I tried setting my fan curve to 100% when it reaches 75 degrees  but its the same wether itthe fan is on 75% usage or 100% it remains on 82 degrees, the only difference it makes a SHITLOAD of noise, if the gpu fan is on 100% it sounds like a fucking engine when I walk in my room. Does anyone know why? WHat should I do?

I have 1 intake fan in front and 1 exahust. Should I get new system fans (my case is front is closed) Phanteks p400.

Please help

That does not sound like a normal scenario. I would try troubleshooting the issue by first removing the side panel and see if the problem is with the card itself. Set the fans to auto and with the side panel off and assuming a normal ambient temperature of <30C you should only see not more than around 75C, probably lower than that. A quick google search will yield a number of reviews that should provide you with a baseline temperature. If, your card still heats up then the issue might be with the card itself. If its relatively new, and has not been tampered with and assuming its still under warranty, I would recommend you contact Customer Support and apply for a RMA. If its past its warranty I would repaste the graphics card with new thermal paste and perhaps clean out the heatsink + fans for any dust that might have accumulated.

If removing the side panels resolve your issue then your issue would most likely be with the case itself and you would need to rethink its position and rethink airflow. Adding more/better fans would normally resolve the issue but check to see if the intakes themselves are clear of obstruction such as a buildup of dust that has accumulated.

I'm guessing non of you replying having a 10 series GPU, well I have 2(1050ti and 1080) they will always hit the target temperature no matter the fan speed as per the design( might vary a couple degrees if it is running out of allocated power, another option you can change), both of my cards don't even turn on a fan until 60C, 82C is fine but the OP wants a lower temp, the only way to do that is to decrease the target temperature. Just to add for the record 82C hasn't been concerning for a GPU in like 15 years.

EDIT: just checked my cards, both have a temp target of 83C so that is probably the standard for pascal, both gigabyte cards same as the OP's.

Is it a NEW GPU or did u get it used?

Sounds more like a case issue though. If you have your card in a lower PCIE slot, the air is just gonna blow right back up to the card, especially so if your case doesn't have ventilation on the side panel. Could add a couple more case fans in a PULL configuration to get the air out. Ventilation is quite important in building a custom PC

How much clearance do the GPU fans have? Is the PSU or any other card located immediately below?

Open air coolers need good airflow. 1 intake fan probably isn't enough, especially if you have only an inch of clearance on the GPU cooler.
