I see. I couldn't even find the HP you mentioned aside from a spec sheet (was trying to compare price).

That laptop should be fine for simple work. If she does anything intense then maybe look for something with a dedicated gpu if able. But again, that laptop should work fine for her when writing papers and using the internet.

If she is running stuff like Microsoft Office and a few internet tabs she should be fine. I don't know what programs specifically so I couldn't say

I do not. This website is the only info I could find on the laptop before having to use Google translate, and even then I could find a whole lot:

What's her major?

If it's engineering, Computer Science, or Graphic design, She'll need a better computer.

If it's business, liberal arts, psychology, history, or a language then the laptop is plenty fine. If it's any of these majors you can even go to a chrome book.

Engineering, CS, and GD sometimes require powerful CPU, or GPU for certain programs.

Business Liberal Arts, Psych, History, and majoring in Spanish usually requires word processing, excel, power point and that's it. Google offers free versions of this on their website, and may offer downloadable options. If she's used to windows I'd stick with a windows PC though. Many schools offer MS office free with the school e-mail. Otherwise there's the Libre Office suite. That's a free/open source alternative to office programs.

I would say that less is more in display size, you get a lighter, more portable, laptop with better battery life (remember the more display you have, the more that has to be backlit). I would try to find a 13" machine, if she really needs the space to multitask, then you need a better CPU, at least an i5. Try to find a chromebook if she can use that, remember that Google Docs can read and export Microsoft Office formats, although chromebooks don't have great specs, the OS is highly optimized, so real world performance is great. Right now I am refurbishing a 2010 macbook for my sister for her to use at school and I found some on eBay for $150, a 120GB SSD would be $60, 8 GB of ram would be $95 and a new battery would be $50 (Sorry I don't know about the availability of these things in your area and all these prices are USD) and you have a good machine for $355 USD. I'm writing this post on the macbook right now with 4 tabs in chrome and Spotify and CPU usage is at 25% and is quiet and not really warm, macs have great performance retention. Consider that option too.

Got an Android, never going back to apple again (notice I spelled apple with a lowercase and Android with an uppercase)
