Mechanical HD / SSD

my current drive si about to reach the end of its life whit already 2 craches today

so im thinking what the replacment shall be, thinking i might use SSD as boot drive and Mechanical HD for games and redundant storage.

im a bit behind of the development of ssd's if they are worth the money whit there limited lifespan.

want to know the best brands of both Mechanical HD and ssd for good lifespan and reliability, and if its even worth geting an ssd or if i shood go whit only an Mechanical HD to save money

under normal conditions, not an issue (anymore).

all you need to think is if you want to pay 3 cents per gigabyte for a HDD, or 25 cents per gigabyte for an SSD.

 

what's pretty much the standard for "snappy home computers for enthousiasts" is an SSD to boot off, and a HDD for mass storage.

gotta have that SSD boot drive, you are literally slowing your computer down by not having it, personally I run Samsung SSD's but have used some Kingstons for some budget builds, i've also been a long time user of Western Digital had drives, escially after I had 1 get FLOODED and continue to work for another year or so, while the drives in the other computers all died.

what iv goten, ann ssd will only affect the speed on startup couse when running the system arnt using enoth to make a diffrence.

mabey the only point it aculy afects is when windows starts fucking and running a bunck of unecesary crap in the background

Depending on your use case, it can speed up a lot of stuff on a PC. Assuming you get a drive of sufficient size, you should install all of your most commonly used programs to it.

 

As an minor example: If you game, you're probably playing PUBG lately, and i noticed i had issues loading into the game within the minute before the match starts, then I'd have texture load issues, all until i installed the game on my SSD. now it loads immediately every time without fail.

 

I also install chrome, steam, origin, my system monitoring software NZXT CAM/ all of my utilities my peripherals need (Corsair's shitty utility for their awesome keyboards as an example)

an SSD speeds up turning windows on and off, it also speeds up loading apps that are installed on it, like your web browser or steam or anything else you install directly to it, I replaced the hard drive in my dads crappy Pentium Dual Core laptop and the machine is noticeably faster at everything, hard drives bottleneck modern computers, plain and simple. the ONLY thing an SSD doesn't do is give you more FPS in games, everything that involves something being loaded gets faster, games are already loaded into the ram by the time you are playing them so at that point it doesn't matter what your drive is. when I built my desktop last year (i7 6700k overclocked to 4.5Ghz) I started with a hard drive, that drive sat pegged at 100% disk usage almost all the time, it made the computer respond slower then the pentium 4 (decade old) PC I had just installed an SSD into for someone else.

there is the problem, to get a ssd of large size ull need to pay a fortune.

it wouldent be a big problem if i only was to play one game, but as a gaming nomad im switching games often and the games i stay at longer is the games that lakes size whits would be inposible to reinstall every time im switching back to the game

it would probly only speed it up by a few seconds,

whit an 7200RPM HD everything loads in a few secends so i dont se why ull need to sped somthing up that is already fast

dude, get one and see, once you get one you never want to go back to spinning disk for a boot drive, my dads computer went from taking several MINUTES to boot to taking 30-40 seconds and loads web browsers in a third the time and we aren't talking 1 or 2 seconds, we are talking 5-10 seconds faster loading the web browser then before. Yeah it's probably not worth it for games due to the size and price of large SSD drives, but a nice 120-250GB drive isn't a horrible price and makes the computer FAR more responsive

DUDE whit my HDD hte computer computer starts in 40-60sec, web browsers open in 3-5sec

how old is ur old mans compuer from the stone age?

I told you, it's a Pentium Dual Core, I can also tell you the half dozen other computers from my 6700k desktop all the way back to an old pentium 4 that I have PERSONALLY installed SSD's into have all seen noticeable speed increases over there old hard drives.
