Hey i was wondering what settings i should use if i want to optimize performace but i still want to keep the beauty of the game. I saw a youtuber able to twiddle around with the settings to make it look like ultra but it was performing way better than ultra, have you got any ideas on what to change.

Thanks in advance!

What video card are you rocking? Also, if you had to choose, would you prefer good anti aliasing, good lighting, or a balanced mix of both?

Most things in GTA V can be maxed without any serious hit in performance, minus the settings in advanced graphics. However, combining MSAA with High/Very High post processing causes a huge hit in performance. For most mid range cards, the choices are to either lower MSAA, lower post processing, or try to find a balance between the two. If looking for a balance is preferred, 2x MSAA + FXAA/TXAA + Frame Scaling (under advanced) can be beneficial.

For the most part the difference between the highest setting and the tick below it are minimal and yet somehow you get noticeably better performance.

But in any case, you can use https://www.geforce.com/whats-new/guides/grand-theft-auto-v-pc-graphics-and-performance-guide to figure out what settings eat into performance the most and see their quality differences to figure out whether or not it's worth keeping.

Assuming you're gaming at 1920x1080 60Hz, I would start everything off at High with 2x MSAA. If you're getting over 60 FPS, consider bumping up frame scaling a tad to like 1.2x rendering and maybe upping MSAA to 4x after enabling MFAA in NVCP to save some frames.

The difference between high and very high is pretty minimal visually. Your biggest gain in image quality is going to come from frame scaling and MSAA.

Also, if you don't mind out on losing grass density and tessellation, it's possible to enable SGSSAA in DX10.1 (for a surprisingly small hit in performance) to get rid of the shimmering aliasing.

That's strange. Is GTAV the only game you're having issues with? If so, it's possible you're seeing some isolated issue with your configuration. I'd check google/steam/reddit first before dumping money on something that might not fix it.
