Sometimes my pc crashes randomly, mostly while playing games but it also happened while I wasn't actually using it a few times.

The screen freezes and sound dosen't work anymore. After restarting most of the time I don't get any output from my gpu which is usually fixed by swapping the gpu between different pci-e slots for a bit.

After this "fix" my pc will run fine for anything between 30 minutes and multiple days or weeks.

Any help is appreciated!

I5-4430

8gb ram

Gtx 960 2gb

msi z97s krait motherbord

500gb samsung evo ssd

Is anything overclocked? What games are you running? Have you checked for driver updates for your 960?

Gpu is factory overclocked, playing gta 5, overwatch, rainbow 6 siege and battlefield4/1 and I'm running the newest drivers available.

Hmm... while you are playing these games do you have any monitoring software open? Like "realtemp" for Intel cpu temp monitoring and msi afterburner or evga precision x for graphics card monitoring?

Normally not, I checked Temps though and they seem to be fine. Also writing this from my phone because the PC just crashed again

On your pc, type "view event logs". Once they are loaded, take a look to see if anything is under "critical/warning/information" that will give you a hint as to what is causing this. Is there a possibility that the power you're getting from the wall is faulty?

Can't seem to find anything in the event logs and I think the power from the wall isn't the problem since I also had this problem when I was at a LAN-party at a friends' house.

Hmm... well I guess have you checked all your connections on your mobo to make sure everything is secure if you've been hauling your pc back and forth?

I did, even exchanged the PCI-e power cable to the GPU to eliminate that as a fault. I also plugged my pc directly into the wall instead of the power bar I have it plugged in normally and at least the GPU is working again. I will play some games later to see if it is stable while also measuring temps. But if something simple like that really fixed my issue I'd be really surprised.

There was a pc that was randomly shutting off at work. I tried everything. But all it took was to replace the power strip it was plugged into and all issues went away. Sometimes it's the simple things.
