Accessing old drive

Hi.

 

I recenlty installed an old HDD from my familys old PC and i cant access the files despite my account being administrator. 

It comes up in file explorer but i need to access the files in the users directory and it wont let me in.

Is there a way i can get around it.

How is it not letting you access it? Does it say that you don't have permission or that you simply can't see them?

when i double click on the folder it asks if i want to permanantly gain access then does some lodaing but doesnt enter the folder

Ye should i try booting from the drive since it has windows vista on it??

YOu can, I doubt it'll work though but it's definetly worth a shot.

Yeah it would/should bsod if it's a hard drive from another computer. It's trying to load drivers for the wrong hardware. When it pops up with the permissions prompt, you need to accept and let it run through. It will take a while, you just need to wait. It will pop up after a while.

Yeah it poped up and i waited like 5 minutes and it had stopped loading by this point

So to be clear the loading bar went all the way across and disappeared but the folder itself didn't pop up?

OK, In that case try using this software: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/fastcopy.html to copy the files to another place. If the permissions really did change then it should be able to access.

It just gave me access like just then, 20 minutes after i requested it.
