Hello!

My name is Aaron, and I built PCs quite often. Never really have any issues with the hardware that I put into machines. You would think I am lucky, except I just tried to build a new PC for myself, and things are odd. I usually leave my pc on to idle when I am not using it, since I come and go frequently from my desk. The past couple of times (about 2-3 weeks after completing the build), my display has been turned off and nothing was waking it through my PC. I have had to hard reset, and was just hoping there was some sort of sleep function or whatnot causing the issues. That changed when I tried to load up a game about 15 minutes after starting my PC up. Sound and everything started to stutter and sloowwww down, and my mouse pointer began to freeze. Then just like that my computer was at a dead hault, with the display on, but nothing working (even ctl-alt-delete commands, etc.). It is upsetting that the build that I decide to do for myself is the one that has issues like this. It does not always freeze when I launch games. When it does play the games it does extremely well. Temperatures are fine. I am overclocking my CPU and GPU but both of those are stable and tested. Using hardware monitors, it appears as if everything is fine. The freezing seems to happen out of nowhere. I am not sure where to start with this issue as I am assuming it could be anything in the rig. Afterburner is not adjusting overclock after crash, and neither is my UEFI. I have tested both heavily anyways. I don't believe it is power draw since the way it is freezing up (but who knows). Don't think I see any leaking from the AIO, and all fans/case are running smoothly. No bubbling sounds from the AIO. Not sure if it could be the hard drive (tho I highly doubt it). SOS

NEW UPDATE!

PC JUST DID IT AGAIN. It is happening more frequently now. This time I was just watching a youtube video, and the sound started to stutter hard, my mouse froze, and the display stopped. HOWEVER; I could still hear all of the audio from the video afterwards as crisp as you would normally expect. Starting to think maybe a GPU issue. Not sure. Maybe AIO cooler is leaking onto it (or already has and ruined it), so I will double check. My audio passthrough for my headphones is through the MOBO, so it would be unaffected by the GPU, and during the past few freezes, the PC actually stays on as if functioning properly. What should I do?

Have you updated the BIOS to a recent revision?

Yes sir, I have! It actually gave me issues at first. The manufacturer actually said not to update since it could mess things up. All it did was mess the link between UEFI and storage/os. Fixed that issue and been smooth since. Check out my recent comment, as I have made a new discovery.

I had the same issues and luckily managed to solve it, our experiences may be related. What OS are you running?

I actually posted my last comment and right as I did I got a notification you had just posted yours. Sorry about that!

If you think it might be your GPU have you tried switching cables? Do you happen to have a spare GPU? (Ryzen, sadly, does not have an iGPU)

Please quote or mention me if you would like a timely reply. Thank you!

Yah I dont have a spare GPU around. I havent tried switching cables, but I am pretty sure it isnt the cables. Only because of the stuttering of the sound and inability to detect input.

I am on Windows 10

Do you use Cortana and have you set up voice recognition to activate Cortana with the 'Hey Cortana' wake-up word, and do you have a plugged in microphone?

Include microphone question.

I do not have cortana set up. I do have a mic tho

My issue was that Cortana was randomly activating and as no voice was detected, it was creating a massive amount of error logs and freezing my computer. I de-activated Cortana and the freezing stopped! At the time, there were a lot of issues flagging up regarding this, and it always was pinned back to Cortana.
