Okay so I just bought a Strix GTX 1080ti. I currently have a crappy 1080p monitor that would be hard pressed to get $30 on craigslist. I have $500 to spend. Do I go 4k(Asus PB287Q) or 2k (Dell S2716DG)?

2k 144hz, or ultrawide high refresh rate if you are gaming. 4k if you do work that requires the extra pixels

If you just spent 800 dollars on a Gpu why would you cheap out on the monitor and not enhance your experience with the 4k!?!?!

1080 Ti SLI can't max out the 2K 144hz

I'm only spending $500 now because in the next few months high refresh rate 4ks are coming out and I rather not break the bank on monitor that will likely be replaced by years end. In short, this monitor is just a place holder until I buy what ever next-gen 4k hdr early next year

Depends what you actually use the monitor for and what you value...?

If you're mostly using it for web browsing, productivity, games that are locked to 60 fps, etc., then the Asus 4k @ 60 Hz display maybe makes more sense (though I would wonder why you'd want a TN monitor if spending all this much money for that). If you play shooters competitively you almost certainly want the 2.5k @ 144 Hz makes a lot more sense.

A 1080 Ti can't even max out 1080p @ 144hz ^_^

So I guess the question is.. Does a 4k display at 27" a big enough difference over 2.5k to miss out on hi-refresh and gsync?
