GPU Overheating/Fans Not Working

Hey, I was playing some games and all of the sudden my PC just shut off. I figured it was probably the CPU overheating. But when I checked HWMoniter it wasn't the CPU, it was the GPU. It keeps overheating and I can only be on for 10-15 minutes at a time. It usually gets around 63 c. before it shuts off. The fans only work when I am turning the PC on, after that they just studded back and forth. Please help, thanks!

Are you using any program that affects the GPU fans (e.g. Sapphire Trixx, etc.)?

What GPU is it?

60°c shouldnt be shutting off, nvidia cards can run fine up to 84°C on the long run, AMD's 90-95°C

Is there maybe dust or something in the heatsink or fan? You could try to blow it out with an air compressor.

sounds like they don't get enough voltage to keep spinning - did you mess with fan curves ? 

 

if you did not modify the fan curve it could also mean that the bearings have worn down and the fans are getting stuck if they don't get the maximum voltage - wich hardly any stock fan curve is set to deliver after POST

I haven't messed with anything and it's almost brand new, like a week old, so j don't think it has anything to do with the bearings bein old.

Yeah, but it's a Geforce evga 970

Nope, and the get GPU is a GeForce evga 970

It shouldnt be shutting of at 60 degrees. Its very low in terms of temperature. I believe you reseated everything so lets skip that, can you share all the specs of your PC? Especially the PSU

And also did you check if the fan pins were in place when you cleaned the card? Did you open it all the way?

which one, i owned the evga gtx 970 sc. I also got blackscreen crashes with that card thats what got into buying a new card

I think I fixed it, I just took out the graphics card and cleaned it all with the air compressor and it seams to be working just fine right now. Thanks for all the help, I tried everything that was recommended for me to do, and one of them fixed it.
