Hi.

So... It happened. My wife wants to thow away my PC, because we need some space.

Old pc: two LCD screens (19" ASUS and 21" LG), mid tower with a i5-2500k, P67 Sabertooth, 8GB of RAM and a R9 280X TOP of ASUS.

The best part of it - i can buy a new one. :D
The plan is to put the new PC behind my 4k 46" LG tv and use it as a screen.

I wanted to spend about 6000PLN ('cause i'm from poland) which gives about 1680$ (american). (in terms of currency... 1$-3,57PLN   1€-4,25PLN)
It will be a multi purpose PC with a heavy GAMER! scent.

The specs:

  • CASE: Nzxt S340 - USB 3.0 (CA-S340W-B1)
  • MoBo: MSI Z270 GAMING PRO CARBON, Z270, DDR4, HDMI, DVI, USB-C, ATX
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K, 4.2GHz, 8MB, OEM (CM8067702868535 953006)
  • AIO: Corsair Hydro Series H110i Extreme (CW-9060026-WW)
  • RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4, 2x8GB, 3200MHz, CL16 (F4-3200C16D-16GVKB)
  • GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 G1 Gaming 8GB GDDR5X (256 bit) DVI-D, HDMI, 3x DP, BOX (GV-N1080G1 GAMING-8GD)
  • PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750W (220-G2-0750-X2)
  • HDD: SSD Intel Optane Memory 16 GB M.2 (MEMPEK1W016GAXT)

SSD Transcend 128GB (TS128GSSD370S)

HDD Seagate 1TB (ST1000DM003)

In this configuration it came out close to 7000PLN (1960-ish $).

My question: can i get something better at that price? I wanted to squeeze the best bang for the buck. I would really appreciate any feedback and opinions on that setup.

Thanks. :D

Under Construction...

it looks good if you can get a ryzen 7 with mobo for less, that's more casholini towards better gpu for instance..

also, prices rarely reflect when comparing overseas.. if you get suggestions, it might be something that's fairly cheap in america but more expensive in poland, you might also get suggestion based on sales from american stores that won't apply in poland or will be more with shipping from usa to poland..

you could also look into making a mini-itx build so the computer will be smaller = will take less place = happier wife :P otherwise, if you are hiding the computer behind the tv, get a really cheap (but ok) case instead since it will be hidden away and don't need to look fancy

Yeah. I am well aware of the price difference. Btw. the prices of computer hardware are not so great lately. About the case: the NZXT case is like 50$. With a window and a separate PSU compartment it is decent for cool-ish work temps and a LED mod for lighting the back of the tv. :D At the beginning i wanted a Fractal Design Nano S Mini-Tower but i am not sure if the setup would fit.

About the CPU: I'm a Intel user for so long, that i don't even look at AMD's... Maby it's a bad move.

50 bucks is a good price, but 30bucks gives you 20 extra bucks for something else :P

the ryzens aren't as powerful as the 7700k, although very close, if you can save 50+ bucks on it, it might be worth it..

you could also probably get away with using a 650w as well, though a 750w will probably be a tiny bit higher efficiency, though i doub't you'd see much difference in your powerbill. and often there isn't that much money to save there.. just a thought.. i would guess your setup would peak around 400w +/-

I'm learning. :P I could throw in a Corsair RM650i 650W (CP-9020081-EU) for a minor 6$ saving. I could also switch to a Ryzen 7 1700x, but... it costs more than the 7700k. And a mobo with x370 chip, the price range is huge. So savings or more cash for the mobo.

I would potentially upgrade the RAM to make full use of your MoBo's capabilities - but this does depend on your budget.

8GB of Corsair Vengeance LPX 3866 OC memory set's you back about £85.

If you are gaming at 4K I would go for a Ryzen R5 1600 build with a GTX 1080 ti. At this resolution there won't be a lot of difference.

You could also drop the expensive cooler and go with a good budget air cooler such as a Cryorig H7.

I personally wouldn't bother with the Intel Optane. Just go with a HDD and good SSD such as a Samsung 850 EVO.

Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4, 4x4GB, 3866MHz, CL18 (CMK16GX4M4B3866C18R) i get it that these are not the same modules, but i can't find them now. It doesn't matter, because that's 100$ more than the G.Skill ones. Question: how much of an increase of performance you can get from 3866 than the 3200?

So Optane isn't worth the (approximate) 30$? The cheaper option for cooling would be a Cooler Master Seidon 240V (RL-S24V-24PK-R1). I wanted some room for overclocking.

I wouldn't bother with Optane. Just go with a HDD/SSD combo.

If you went with the Ryzen R5 1600 for example you can even get a good overclock with the stock cooler. Can you buy Cryorig coolers in Poland ? If not maybe buy one from the UK or look at different air coolers. You don't really need to spend a big amount on cooling for Ryzen.

CPU Cryorig H7 (CR-H7A) for 150PLN - 42$ I need to look up some Ryzen setups. I checked thus far only Intel options.

Yeah, i know. I have one ssd (not really a fancy one) in my current rig and i'm astonished how quick my PC is. Should i double up? 2 SSD's and a HDD?

Yep the Cryorig H7 is a good cooler for the money. You can also use any height of Ram as it won't block any Ram slots.

I would just go with a HDD and then 1 SSD of 250GB or above depending on how many games you want to install on it. So a Samsung 850 EVO, Crucial MX300 or SK Hynix SL308 would all be good choices depending on what you can buy.

My current cooling would cost 140$, so changing to air would yield 100$ for a ssd. :D

Forgot to mention this. If you do buy a cooler and go with Ryzen make sure you buy an AM4 bracket either from the retailer or go on the manufacturers website to get one. The R5 1600 has a good stock cooler that you can use in the mean time if you can't get a bracket straight away.

AM4 is relatively new and the coolers that were manufactured prior to its release do not have a bracket for it included in the package. Manufacturers ship the AM4 bracket for free usually.
