When you overclock a cpu by x% will it be x% faster or will it be number of cores*x% faster?Here

you can see how little ryzen 1600 benefits from overclocking (3.2 GHz to 3.8 GHz), if clock rate of each core is increased for 0.6 GHz shouldn't the performance of overclocked CPU be much better?

In a perfect world with a perfect multi-tasking and scaling software, 20% more frequency or 20% more cores would mean +20% more performance each...

Which never happens. 

 

Different softwares and workloads can gain, reduce, or stain on par on performance with more/less core and frequency. There are applications which gain A LOT from multiple cores, like rendering (or much better, scientific calculations) and others where you might even decrease performance if you add more cores, like in some games.

 

It's mostly about how the software is developed and how the arch of the CPU physically works.
