PCIe Lanes Help

Hey,

I recently installed an nvme pcie ssd (samsung 960evo 250GB) and everything works perfectly

 

but in both gpu-z and nvidia panel it says the gpu runs at pcie x16 3.0@x16 3.0

 

shouldnt it be x8???

 

my specs are:
i7 7700k

8GB Ram

GTX 1060 6GB

samsung 960evo

nzxt x52

Doesn't the chipset itself provide some pcie lanes for stuff like ssd?

yeah for sata SSDs but nvme SSDs use either 2 or 4 pcie lanes

It seems like the chipset provides extra 20 lanes for pcie ssd as well so that GPU can use 16, unless I'm misreading something.
