I tired to turn on our server with windows server 2012 r2 and its been stuck on "we couldn't complete the updates, undoing changes, don't turn off computer" for a couple hours. I can't restore to a backup because theres no backup and i dont want to system restore to brand new and to lose the files on the server.

load windows to a usb and boot from there... you might be able to access your files...

Loading windows to a USB won't allow you to boot from there ?

As far as I know there is no windows bootable usb

But user can boot with linux to retrieve files tho.

Let the updates finishes, if they do finish lol maybe its very long ?

You can make a bootable linux ubuntu per example and boot with linux without installing it, so that you can retrieve files
