I'm thinking about going minimal when I retire in a couple of years and fitting out a Sprinter Van as a camper.  How would I be able to continue using my Asustor NAS to access my digital content on the road?  The unit needs to be connected to a LAN for me to even use my phone app.  So is there a way I can trick it into believing it's on a network?  I think connecting it to a router wouldn't work if it can't see the interweb connection.  Although the unit has HDMI and Toslink outs, I have to be able to control it somehow and I haven't seen a way to do that without a connection to my phone at the very least.

when you are fitting out that sprinter just install a wiki router in there and connect the NAS to it.

All you need it a network, it doesn't have to be connected to the internet or something so that should be fine.

Make sure to throw some solar panels on the roof to keep things running while the engine is turned off.

you also want to consider switching over to SSD´s in the NAS due to shock resistance or your drives will fail after a while.
