SNMP Community String (Spiceworks)

What is an SNMP Community String? I'm trying to learn how to use Spicework's network manager, and I need that + the IP (I have that) of a network device to add it. What is it, and where do I find it?

ok so its basically credentials to "login" to the client to allow you to install updates, apps anything you allow basically. Have you created a SNMP account in the Spiceworks settings so it can pull data from the switches?

No I haven't. And the only switches on the network are the built in router ones.

It should be quite straight forward then, it has been a while since i used it but from memory once you make the SNMP account and do a scann it should do the rest for you. I know some routers needs settings changed and some have this built in (CISCO)

One router is an Apple Time Machine, and the other is whatever piece of crap came with Comcast's business plan (I hate that thing).

Stop right there i dont think AppleTime Machines have SNMP ports sorry  unless its changed recently they never used to
