Need help with mkv file

I have searched the internet high and low and haven't been able to solve my issue so I hope you guys can help.

 

I have a .mkv file. The audio track of the file is e-ac3 which wont play on any of my devices except for ones with vlc installed.

I want to know if it is possible, and if so, instructions on how to extract the e-ac3 audio track from the file and convert it

to ac3 and then reattach it to the file.

 

I really appreciate if anyone can help.

Download mkvtoolnix and then install mkvextract in the folder where mkvtoolnix is. You can then extract the audio, convert it and then use mkv toolnix to remux the mkv fileand select only the converted audio source  not the one with video

Handbrake gives you a lot of control over the file, including the audio.

its free, and stupidly easy to use.
