Mining Build

Hi, guys im trying to build a mining rig and i wanted to know which parts would be the most efficient. i was thinking of using the new AMD threadripper the lesser of the two as CPU.

All suggestions are welcomed. preferably from those who currently mine.

CPU doesn't matter for mining, it's mostly about gpu.

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Yeah, I've seen a mining build with like 4 1070s that had a pentium in it

That 390 is pretty power hungry if i remember correctly.... Might not be worth using for mining

Well, Bitcoin and eth are entirely different coins... And crypto currency literally means every coin...

someone was asking what type of coin i wanted to mine. i wasnt sure if that was a relevant question or not. since i just wanted something for mining. my current system is an AMD is the FX 8320 with 32 gigs of ram and the saphire r9 390. i saw some posts online which suggests it could be used but like you said earlier it has a tendency to consume power

It's kinda power hungry so idk how much you could make off it. Rx 570s and 580s are best for ethereum at least, but they're super expensive thanks to miners. I believe 1070s are decent for stuff like zcash though 1070s are also a bit expensive right now (not as bad as amd gpus though). Amd's upcoming Vega gpus supposedly are very good at ethereum though. That's all I know.

does it matter how many GB these cards have?

GTX 1060s are decent GPUs mining ETH at around 22Mh/s (~$1.5 - $2 a day) with a ROI (return on investment) at around 4 - 5 months. While GTX 1070s are a safer bet but more costly in general.

All this is accounted for if almost nothing goes wrong (e.g. hardware failure).

Yes, it may restrict a few currencies to mine due to their hardware requirements.
