potato or not they had 8 cores, if those cores were bad it would only mean multicore support was even more important, and yet it didn't translate too well on pc - besides there's probably a limit to how much you can parallelize cpu workloads when it comes to game, most of what can be parallelized well is already done by the gpu.

There is no such thing as true 'future proofing', at max PC parts stay current for a year and a bit maybe.
