Hey Guys,

I am looking to upgrade my rather old PC with some new parts and had a few questions that you guys might be able to help me answer.

Before I ask anything, here are my current specs:

CPU: AMD FX 6100

MB: Gigabyte 970A-D3 Rev 3.0

Ram: 8Gb DDR3 (2x4)

GPU: MSI AMD RX 480

PS: Xtreme Gear 600W ATX

Cooler: Cooler Master Sedion 120v

HDD: Toshiba 1TB Drive

Case: In Win H - Frame v1

I'm looking to upgrade from those specs to these:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700

MB: Gigabyte GA - AB350 - Gaming 3

Ram: G.SKILL Trident Z DDR4 300 c15 2x8GB

My main questions at the moment are:

1) Is my current power supply able to handle the upgraded parts?

2) Would it be beneficial to get an SSD as a boot drive?

3) Is there anything I need to get off my current computer before attempting to upgrade?

4) Is my cooler powerful enough to cool down this chip? ( That being if I manage to get an upgrade kit from Cooler Master)

5) Is there anything I might be overlooking as far as upgrading or technical aspects?

6) Over all, is there any advice on executing this upgrade? I understand the technical stuff but the only experience I have is changing out my graphics card.

This rig will be a "budget" video editing and gaming rig.

Hoping you guys can help me out.

For the sake of longevity yeah get a new PSU, SSD as boot while keeping that 1tb as storage is probably the biggest improvement you'd see immediately, cooler is debatable but should be okay.. maybe get new some Noctua thermal paste 'sips coffee' ummm beyond that sure you will be able to mostly anything heck even Star Citizen really with that beast of a CPU
