Finishing off a case mod

So when I painted my case, I never finished it off too well and I knew I'd be going back anyways to finish off a tiny thing, but now I'm thinking is there anything else to do to the case, it was a Corsair SPEC-03, and as you can see, it isn't really that stock anymore, is there anything that would do that I didn't do? If you want more photo from a particular angle just ask. Yes it's super dusty I can't be arsed to dust it more than  monthly. I kinda thought about adding better cable management options and some other hidden stuff but I plan to move cases in about 5 months to it doesn't really matter too much.

PSU shroud? Those always look dope, and hide ugly cables. And yeah, your GPU doesn't have the full backplate mine does, maybe that's why it feels flimsy.

I like the PSU exposed like that because it keeps it cooler than if it was covered, even a drop from 50°C to 40°C on the PSU internals will add thousands of hours of life onto the components, plus there is a giant tube running beside it lol. 

 

Yeah this GPU could do with a back plate but this model is confirmed to have been from the GTX 980 launch, probably one of the first production batches if the maths are to be believed.

Better tube and or coolant color. Then just to hide the case header cables and such

I could, it would be very difficult though, as this PSU is big, and so is the motherboard, I don't think corsair expected someone to mount large calibre parts into it like this, but there is enough room for one. It would make maintainance hard though, I think I'll pass on that one since there are probably more downsides.

If not a psu shroud, why not shroud the front part of the basement and leave the psu uncovered?  This would get you cable clutter coverage.  Just cut some holes for tube routing.  Also just little touch ups would be good.  Like fashioning plugs out of something for the holes near the expansion slots.  You could skip the backplate and do a vertical gpu mounting.  I just did that to my machine and I really prefer the look.   Although if you plan to swap cases soon you may not want to get into any more major mods.

Actually I have the plus for the holes somewhere, I forgot to put them back in after I took them out to paint, idk where they are now, probably in the 20l box of PC stuff for modding. Vertical GPU might be nice, although again, this loop was made to be easy to work on, ie repasting CPU easy, moving parts without draining, so the tube that goes over the GPU might get in it's way a bit, that tube regularly annoys me when fucking around with the GPU.

598d21d2234c3_Inkeddudepc_LI.jpg.4db69dfb5c5d8b8c376c005e318dc7bc.jpgI can see the long tube is sort of tough to deal with in the loop setup.  with a vertical gpu it might be possible to route it behind the gpu rather than in front.  However you may not be looking to get into that kind of mod.   Also have you considered mounting the psu fan down?  You would see much better temps pulling from the bottom, and then a psu shroud would not cause an issue.  I looked at the case you're using and the side panel covers much of the bottom, didn't realize that.  So much of the bottom isn't seen anyway.   Its hard to tell what's going on with cables.  If you took a shot flat on with the whole case shown it would be easier to see the whole picture.

 

I see you removed the hdd cages.  Where did you mount them?   Using SSD?  Something that could be relatively easy and make a nice look is filling the areas marked above with a flat black or red piece that could double as cable hiding and a mount for a couple drives.  could just attach it to the back of your rez and top bottom.

Actually PSU temps are down over 10°C from it being fan side up, this system doesn't even pull 420 (BLAZE IT) watts with Cinebench and furmark running, so the PSU fan never turns on unless it's under a 100% maxed load for longer than 20 minutes. With the fan up, the 4 intake fans (this case has SERIOUS positive air pressure, fuck balanced) mean air is pushed out of every opening, including the PSU, keeping it a lot cooler as the air is always going through it. I can get that angle though no problem, 1 moment, and yes I removed the drive cages as I hate them, I mounted the SSD and HDD behind the motherboard tray as there is a lot of room there for stuff, including a HDD.

Cool this picture helps.  Barring some of the other suggestions, if this were my case, the main thing I would do is add a panel separating the space once occupied by hdd cages from the back of the case. Probably matte black.  Then run all of the cabling I could behind it.  The front IO ribbon cable, fan cables, all of the cabling running to the bottom of the board could be hidden.  All that would be visible would be some of the bulky psu cables.  Basically just extend the MB tray all the way to the right.  Just allow for some room to pass cables behind it.  Could mount ssd's or the like to it, or not.  Other than that just try and get the excess pcie power cable behind the mb tray if possible, giver her a cleaning and call it complete.  The area I marked would just need to be something flat cut to size painted however you like.  I would mount it behind the red mount for the rez using the same screws to hold it in place as the rez, leaving some space to pass cables behind on the right. and perhaps something top or bottom to hold it as well.  I think that would tighten up the look.

That could work, the motherboard tray was a little flimsy after I was finished hacking it haha. Although is a heavy PC when built, it still seems to be rigid when all put together and in place, but that might not be a bad idea, it would also balance out the feel of the case, both functional and looks good.

I think it would really finish it off indeed.  Depending on how you mount it (and what it's made of) you could strengthen things for sure.  Good luck sir.  Post some updates if you decide to go through with further modding.

I'll either rivet aluminium or tig weld some sheet steel, but welding would fuck the paint up super fast
