Hi all,

I've been racking the internet to try and find some cable organisers as i have hundreds of cables lying around. All i seem to be able to find is Velcro cable straps. Where as im trying to find something similar to how cable extension reels look like. If anybody has any suggestions or links on where i can find them, be a massive help.

Thanks :)

I would suggest buying a bunch of organizer bins (plastic storage tubs or whatever - pretty much anything works). Sort your cables by type. Sort by size/length if you have a lot of a particular size. Label each and every single cable by type and length (Label maker comes in handy - but masking tape and a sharpie will do in a pinch). Then velcro cable straps onto every single cable, and toss them into their respective bins.

Don't forget to label the bins!

If you're thinking of the same type of cable extension reel that I know of, I can't possibly imagine how you could use them to help you organize, unless you have a bunch of 100ft+ network cables or something?

I was thinking more of being able to organise my cables similar to how cotton thread arrives, by being wrapped around a circular object and then being fastened at the end. I was aiming for something similar to this. I use Velcro on other things but for cables that I use a lot i want to be able to unwrap quickly have no labels or chunky connectors attached to it. I appreciate the reply though.

That... doesn't seem like a very good idea. How will you quickly re-attach your cable to the "reel"?

I mean, having a bin that has "USB-A to USB-Micro B" cables in it, that you can just reach in and grab (and when finished, toss back in), is surely more efficient then somehow attaching said cable to some kind of reel, then reeling it back up?

The first thing I recommend is learn how to properly wrap up cables:

This helps keep the cables to last longer, take up a similar footprint, and when you need to unroll it, it comes out straight without any pretzel knots. Use a velcro strap to keep it wound.

After that, sort them however you'd like.

Don't discount the velcro straps before using them. I bought a pack of 100 and i've been using them on anything that has an attached cable ever since.

Also do a search of organizing retro video game equipment.  What a lot of folks do to keep the older corded controllers, power cords, A/V cables etc... organized will probably help you in what you are attempting.
