Hi guys

A little background:  I was saving up for a ryzen 3 or 5 build. Now there is a guy selling his i7 970 with am ROG mobo and 6 gb ram for 100usd locally

My end use: Gaming @1080p limited to COD4 and maybe a little GTA5. Will also be editing 10min video clips in DaVinci Resolve

Wanted to ask if I should take up the i7 offer or save up for the ryzen build instead? Also if I take the i7, I might have to replace it in maybe 3yrs or so

What do you guys think?

Heya!

The i7 970 is enough for gaming, but wont last you as long as a Ryzen 5 would.

Going for a Ryzen will give you DDR4 RAM and more choices for future upgrades unlike the 970 path.

That 970 build seems really cheap though.

Choice is yours.

Do you think it'd be a good idea to pair it with a 1060 3gb?

Its just a very good price

I mean this combo allows allocating more towards a better gpu

My original plan was to pair the ryzen with a 1050ti

I think the GTX 1060 would get slightly bottlenecked by the i7 970, but you'd be able to push past 60FPS in most titles either way.

As it allows you to push to a better GPU, it also limits how good it can be. The i7 970 is old, really old by todays standards.

It would work fine, don't get me wrong, but games get more demanding. It may or may not hold up for 3 years depending on how picky you are.

Thats a really good point

I did not see that potential trade off

Thanks
