So I have been trying to get 32-bit java and 64-bit java to play nicely together now for the past 4 hours, digging through forms from last week all the way to three years ago, digging through Java 64-bit versions from the same era range as mentioned before, and I have made no progress. Well, I said I made no progress but what I did manage to do was narrow my problem down to when (and where?) my problem is happening. So randomly I think around a week ago I tried to open up Minecraft so that I could help a buddy of mine get his server set up and I it didn't want to launch, so I thought no biggie and thought a reboot would fix it. Though seeing as I do a lot of work on said computer I had a ton of windows and programs open that I didn't feel like reopening at a later time so I just went and grabbed my laptop (and no I can't just replicate my setup on previously mentioned laptop, it's running entirely different hardware, so, form factor, you name it) and that fixed my problem entirely. Now I am trying to help him set up a "FTB Infinity evolved" (essentially Minecraft modded to the point where some could say it feels like a different game built off the bones of Minecraft) server now that he had gotten his feet wet with a vanilla server for a couple of days, though the only problem is that it runs like shit on my laptop and I need to use my desktop now. To cut right to the chase, I am trying to run java programs (more specifically Minecraft and extremely modded Minecraft) and with just 32 bit installed they both start and run "fine." My problem is that I need to use the 64-bit version of Java so that I can allocate more memory for the extremely modded Minecraft (which it needs to run smoothly) and currently when I try to install 64-bit Java along side 32-bit Java I keep getting log error files that fit this pattern "hs_err_pid#####.log" (the numbers are different for each one of them so that doesn't help at all, also, see attached files for two examples, one from trying to run normal Minecraft, and one from trying to run the extremely modded version). And if you hadn't gathered it already, each time that I try and run one of them, it appears to start loading (you know the classic little hour glass that appears as something begins to initialize) then just stops and then spits out a log file in the same folder as the program you tried to run (which is a folder on my desktop in this case). My system specs, if needed, are on my profile and should also be in my signature. Also, the version of Java I am currently running (or trying to) is Java 8u144 for 32-bit and 64-bit respectively.

EDIT: To clarify, the issues are on my Desktop client, it is the only one shitting bricks, not the server that I am trying to help set up and not my laptop. I have also tried to re-install the various versions of Minecraft as well.

UPDATE: Seems to be only the 64 bit version that is having difficulties

Look for the minecraft_server.1.7.10.jar (or w/e version the ftb is running) and FTBServer-1.7.10-1614 (or w/e version the ftb is running)

Right Click > Properties and looks for "Opens with:" and click Change

Navigate to C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_144\bin and double click java.exe.

This should make it run 64 bit java.

Perhaps try just uninstalling 32-bit java?

You could try removing both of them, then install 32-bit first, then 64-bit.

There's another possible option which can be found here: https://www.java.com/en/download/help/update_runtime_settings.xml

Did you change the java path in the advanced options in the FTB Launcher?

Well the entire runtime just shits bricks when 64-bit is installed so I can't even start the configure-er with 64-bit installed

Nothing starts, not the launcher, nothing, anything that relies on Java just shits itself and spits out a log file

start with uninstalling both versions of java, reinstalling the (lasest) 64-bit version, and if you *really* need it the 32-bit as well.

then, in case you decide to install both, i'm just gonna guess you're using the twitch app and not the old crusty (discontinued) ftb launcher, in settings => minecraft is a thing about java version, try that.

I haven't tried installing the 64-bit version first yet so I'll definitely, give that shot. Though I do still use the old launcher, I just like the more simplistic nature of it and it is much easier to setup so that I can have my install inside a Dropbox folder so that my saves are current on every machine I own. Also I I don't quite like having, twitch, Amazon, FTB, etc. essentially all tied at the hip in one app. I tend to like to keep my accounts separate and independent from each other, even though I have the twitch (formerly curse) app installed.

so.. this is a very wild guess.. but is there a chance something is not right about your gpu drivers?

EDIT: is your friend using the old client as well?

Doesn't seem like that would be the issue, I have had some random times where my GPU will crash (and most of the time recovery) when playing overwatch, but I think that is just me needing to iron out some of the kinks in my ageing overclock on my GPU.

oh and my GPU is an "MSI R9 390 Gaming 8G OC Edition" (a mouthful I know)

I am not sure if that would matter as I can't even get the vanilla launcher to launch, let alone the FTB Launcher. The "crash" occurs mere moments after I click on the .exe to open the launcher, I never even see a window, I just get a new log file for my collection. (sorry if I seem agitated, I have just been at this for a while longer than I would have liked to)
