Triple Vs Ultrawide?

I currently have a single 24inch 1080p monitor and want something more. I mostly use my PC to game but also do work on the side. I am stuck between getting an ultrawide and using the 24 as a side monitor or just getting 2 more 24 inch monitors. So the real question is what are your opinions on ultrawide monitors vs triple for gaming and work? I have a 1080 ti in my system so running resolution is no problem.

For gaming, single ultrawide. For work, triple config. Depends on your needs and which you do more of...

 

IMO a 34" UW is amazing to have for games

I think you will get a lot more from getting a larger, higher resolution monitor compared to 2 smaller monitors. I used to run triple monitors, and while it was great for work, not super useful for games (though for games that supported it it was super cool). 

 

If you mostly play games, go for a new, higher resolution monitor. 1440p in either ultrawide or 16:9. If you play FPS then I would say a normal 27" 1440p is fine (especially if you want a second monitor on the side for discord or something), but if you like games like Witcher then 21:9 would be good.

My vote is the ultrawide. They're fantastic for games that support them, and pretty great for desktop use as well. If you're thinking of going Surround with the three 24"s, I would still vote for the ultrawide there as well. Swapping between Surround and normal triple screen is a big pain in the neck, unfortunately (especially if you use high refresh displays).

 

Also, I do like my Predator x34 a lot, but the 200hz, 35", HDR versions are supposed to come out in Q4.

Depends on games you played. Unless you are playing like racing game which 1 of my friend did and got 3 monitor, it was kind of awesome, much more awesome then a single big / ultrawide screen. If not, I would think a single bigger / ultrawide monitor would be much better since you also mentioned it is mainly to play games.

 

Use your current 24" monitor as a side monitor for like temps / steam friend list or whats not.

I'd vote for the triple, but it sounds like you'll be using two different monitors which complicates things. 

 

Either way, as a triple monitor gamer, I'd choose more screen space over higher resolution. if you can learn how to do INI edits, switch between borderless and Surround, triple will be a great experience. If you can't be bothered with that, go ultrawide.

 

If you're wondering, power needed to run triple and ultrawide is dependent on GPU (more pixels) and CPU (more objects).

I have triple and love it for working and multi tasking. But I hat it for games, its taxing on the system, few games support it properly and it tends to be to wide. Just gimicly.. 21:9 is more accessible and games scale to it better. That said I can't wait for 32:9 monitors to start coming out,I think that would be cool.

I agree with Shiv78, tripple for productivity and single ultrawide for gaming. 
I have a triple 1080 60hz ips panel setup currently and I've been really looking at getting rid of it and going with a single ultrawide setup. The triple wide has been great for casual gaming, watching videos one one monitor while gaming and using social media on the other two, but if you really like to focus on your games then I'd suggest a resolution higher than 1080p, a high refresh rate, and something with brilliant colors. From what I could find, the best ultrawide monitors (for g-sync) are the Asus PG348Q and the Acer X34 Predator.

Yeah but 29" UWs are 1080p 60-75Hz and that's pretty low for a 1080 Ti

It's decent specwise, but never heard of the brand... 

BestBuy has a 27" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync monitor for $450, I'd jump on that deal. Best gaming monitor experience under $500 or so, as 1440p UWs with 100Hz+ are close to $1K

Two things that makes me not like this monitor:

1. TN Panel - It's not going to have the brilliant color that IPS provides, but you get a 1ms delay vs a 4ms delay.

2. The reviews on Newegg points to terrible customer service (from AOC), looks like people were sent bad panels and were completely denied warranty coverage.
