I have some questions about windows oem keys

Go to solution Solved by Ryujin2003,

If you purchased a code, you should be fine. OEM is burned into the motherboard. If you purchased a key, install and you will be fine. If you register your windows to an account, it'll help in the future. You can activate your installation via username and password instead of having to type a key every time.

I got a windows 10 oem key and i heard that when you install it on another computer you cant move it to another computer, is that true? Cause i jus built a new pc and i got a windows 10 iso file on another computer and i dont know what to do with it, tried runing install and it said that i am trying to pirate it or something and said i should enter a activation code so i bought a code and i dont know if it will only run on the computer i am installing it on

OEM keys are tied to the motherboard in the PC you install Windows on. If you change out your motherboard or possibly CPU, your key may break.

You can call Microsoft, but they may or may not allow the key to be reactivated as OEM keys aren't intended for end users to use on custom systems. They are meant to be bulk keys for prebuilts.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Peripherals - Corsair K70 Lux RGB | Corsair Scimitar RGB | Audio-technica ATH M50X + Antlion Modmic 5 |

CPU/GPU history: Athlon 6000+/HD4850 > i7 2600k/GTX 580, R9 390, R9 Fury > i7 7700K/R9 Fury, 1080TI > Ryzen 1700/1080TI > i7 9700K/1080TI.

Other tech: Surface Pro 4 (i5/128GB), Lenovo Ideapad Y510P w/ Kali, OnePlus 6T (8G/128G), PS4 Slim.

@Volde Oem keys usually get tied to your motherboard and your Microsoft account. Not sure where you got yours but i got mine from Kinguin and i had to hit up Microsoft livechat in order to activate it.

It doesn't matter what drive you use it on all that matters is that the drive should be connected to your new pc you want to active Windows on.

Also you can just install windows and not active it on a different system and then just activate it whenever you want on the new system in case you have to use a different pc to install windows.

Hope this makes sense.
