PC build feedback needed...

Going to university to study Computer Science this year, graphics rendering and programs writing will be taught, meanwhile, I still want to play with my Steam library, which CPU, R5 1600X or i5 7600K is better to do the job? Or are there is any other options out there (budget ~$250)? Graphics card is GTX 1050 Ti 4GB, 3TB 7200rpm HDD, 8GB DDR4 RAM. Also, I have a 500W PSU, will it be enough to fire up the build or I have to buy a stronger one like 600W or 650W?

R5 1600 but non x since it comes with a cooler and cost cheaper

Get a 1600 with a b350 mobo, and some high speed ram.

So no X? I thought the rendering work gotta need the CPU to be overclocked, or should I get an R7 instead?

If you have budget and you are doing content creation/video editing/rendering then a R7 would be best.  If you have the money.  R7 1700 is going for 290ish right now.  For rendering you want more cores/threads.  1700 can be over clocked if you desire quite easily.
