7700k vs 1700x

Go to solution Solved by Misanthrope,

You're in luck Gamers Nexus has tested both this scenarios:

Whereas the 1700 actually can achieve 144hz on most of the games tested with some notable exceptions when noticeable lower detail was needed to meet the mark, the difference between 120hz to 144hz would be far less noticeable than the crap fest that happens on encoding while gaming with just the 7700k vs the 1700 which does it without even noticing.

So the 1700 is clearly the better choice for doing both things very well vs 7700k doing 144hz excellent and rendering very noticeable worst than the Ryzen

I'm planning to build a new pc, but im stuck on which cpu to choose. I will be editing and rendering on this machine but I also plan to play some light games like CS:GO and Rocket League. I have a 1440p 144hz moniter and want to be able to play games at that frame rate and resolution. Using a GTX 1080, I'm not sure which cpu to use, i7 7700k or Ryzen 7 1700x. The extra cores sound nice for video editing, but from what I've heard Ryzen is not good for games like CS:GO. I am planning to overclock either processer. Will the Ryzen 7 1700x be enough to drive games at 1440p 144hz with a GTX 1080?

Kudos for AMD for finally putting some pressure on Intel.

I still would get the i7 7700K.

Too much FPS loss on pure gaming - even if you play on 1440p as I do, if you do SLI in the future the 1700 will become the bottleneck as it's on 1080p).

And as Nvidia is the must go choice for VGA, for now, streaming with GFE should be the obviously choice, so the CPU really doesn't matter.
