The reason I am asking this because I think my eyes have gone bad or something

Coretemp or Realtemp (one of them only works for Intel CPU's, I forgot which :|). Aida64 monitors temps and much more as well as stress testing etc. or HWmonitor which also monitors a lot more then just temperature.

Edit: BIOS temperature readings are usually pretty reliable, but on AMD CPU's (not sure about Ryzen) the BIOS reads socket temp instead of CPU temp.

Ps- by idle I mean not heavy tasks just like browsing the web.

so amd temperature are not true?

The reason I am asking is I was on stock cooler with my  970 motherboard from gigabyte I got 80c just by opening google chrome... (This was my board it burned down lol I rma-ed everything then waited to by a new board which I finally did after 1.5 year of waiting)

Then I switched to 212 evo and had around 70 c while playing games on medium settings

Now I do not have 212 evo with me anymore or the gigabyte board I switched to msi 990 fx board with stock cooler..

By the way the cpu is 8350 and motherboard is 990FXA-GD80 now on cpu fan speed 75 % I got 70 - 77 c while gaming on high settings..

On idle it was around 50 - 55 C now I just went into bios and changed fan speed o 88% I am now getting 47-49 c on idle and gaming around 60 - 65 C

It is just hard for me to believe these temperatures using aida 64 and bios software..

I was thinking to buy a 212 x now but on 88 % fan speed temperatures looks amazing and hard to believe it is just that it is very very hard for me to believe.

I am just not sure how 75 % to 88% fan speed can make such huge difference.

Note these temperatures are while playing gta 5 on high

Use my mobo software. Which would be asus suite 2/3. More accurate then precision x's stats for the cpu. Seem pretty close an average to hwmonitor too.
