Skype Problems

My friend is having issues with his skype.
He says that he can hear us just fine if his skype is open. but if he minimizes it he cannot. This is problematic due to the fact that when we play video games his skype is automatically minimized.

Please help in resolvig this issue and thank you for your help and consideration. :)
