Looking for some input. I ran a FX9590 for a long time, got tired of the heat and performance so i picked up a X58 Motherboard and put a Xeon X5650 at 4.4GHZ which has been running for years. I game (FFXIV) and also record raids and etc and upload to youtube(recording and playing in 1440p) Its time to update as i think its just to old now and bottle necking my RX480 STRIX, even though it has worked incredible! Should i go Ryzen 1600 or even 170? I have always been a AMD fan but i dont want to have to do this again soon. Or am i better off going with a 7700k? Money is not a concern however price per performance is.

The 1600 is the best for price to performance, but the 1700 will be the best overall performance.

I had a FX8350 and FX9590, before switching to a Ryzen 1700 so I'll share my experience shortly.

From 9590: You will see a jump, even a very big one, in most games. Temperatures won't be a problem anymore, expecially if you are using a AIO (I kept mine when I switched) and OC on Ryzen is extremely simple and a pleasure experience. Multithread is a lot improved as well, with 8C/16T streaming/recording while gaming is basically a "light" task.

From X5650, you will probably notice less differences in SC applications and temperatures, but everything else remains valid. I do suggest to go for a 1700 instead of a 1600 if you multithread a lot, it really benefits from it.

About the 7700K, it's the king of SC and gaming performance and it's great in everything else.. just not as good as a R7 in multithread, and costs the same (or more if you wanna OC it).

Thanks for all the replys! Its good to get good solid information. I think I will opt for the 1700 and ive read they overclock to the 1800x specification? I am using a H105 to cool the system now so temps shouldnt be a problem. Is it a good idea to get the higher end board also? Can you also add 24-32g of high speed ram in the Ryzen system? I do use alot of memory at times.

I would go for the AsRock Taichi Mobo. You only need 16 gb.
