I made a post earlier, but a few things have changed. I currently have 2 PSUs, a 1000w and a 850w. I upgraded from the 850 to the 1000 as well as moved my system into a new case. After installing everything, the system would not boot. I took the system out of the case and tested each thing individually. When I have the CPU power cable unplugged, with both PSUs, the motherboard will power up. But once I plug the CPU cable in and attempt to power the system up, the PSUs will click and the system will not boot. Did I fry my motherboard? Gigabyte has yet to answer my trouble ticket about my warranty.

Components:

980ti

4 8gb DDR4 corsair vengeance

6700k cpu

z170x G7 rev 1.0 mobo

1000w and 850w PSU

 h100i cpu water cooler

Hey!

Im sorry but do i understand this correctly?

You have a single cpu, motherboard and stuff but two psus?

If so try to use one psu and not both.

1000watts is mooore than enough for your system.

Even the 850w psu would work great.

I am only using one PSU, I just was upgrading from the 850w to the 1000w as I was about to build a custom water loop, alongside new graphics cards and more storage. I was just testing each variation of the build with the different PSUs, each with the same results so I do believe the PSUs are not the problem.

Hmm, this sounds bad.

Do you get any kind of image on screen?

Does the pc even turn on?

No image on screen, and the mobo will power on with the CPU cable unplugged, but not with it in. I've looked to see if all the cables are properly seated, Ive taken the CPU chip out and reseated it, I took off and put back on the cpu cooler, I've tried each of my ram sticks, and the same problem persists. I really hope its not the mobo, but I'm out of ideas on what else could be the issue.

It sounds like the vrm or the cpu traces on the mobo are fried. Could you please check the area around the cpu socket and the traces going to the cpu power plug.

This might sound stupid but smell the cpu, cpu socket, cpu power socket on mobo and vrms. Tell me if you smell a bad burnt smell

No visible signs of burns or any burning smell.

Hmm, you said you have two psus and none of them work on this board. Then the only two things i can think of are that either the mobo or the cpu is fried. Most likely the mobo.

Well thank you for the quick replies. I really had hoped it wasn't case, but hopefully I can get it replaced. I had just bought a new case and wanted to test it to see if it had any defects, only to ruin the mobo or cpu. If I can't get it replaced, I guess it would be a good time to start a new build.

Sure, no problem im happy to help :) Yes, it isnt really the thing you want to hear. Good luck getting the components replaced. I guess you're right. But still try to replace the mobo and if that works, sell it and put the funds into buying a even better build or on something else :D Good Luck!
